Days At Willow Creek Ranch
If you wish, you can strike out on your own to enjoy the surrounding area and scenery, enjoy breakfast in nearby Coon Valley, or it’s on with the work clothes to help out on a real working family farm. It’s out to the barn to gather fresh eggs. We might move the cattle around a little bit to a new pasture, or make sure our fencing is in good shape. And yes, there’s swamping out the barn, something everyone should experience a few times in their life. After all, humility and gratitude are virtues! And let’s not forget the pigs! We need to make sure they’re all accounted for, especially those little piglets of ours.

Time To Play
Bring your bikes, because there are plenty of great county roads that wind through the glaciated valleys (we call them Coulees) here in the Coon Valley, Wisconsin area. Bring your binoculars, too, because you don’t want to miss seeing bald eagles, red tail hawks, blue birds and baltimore orioles up close and personal. And yes, there is always the fishing. We are located in the very heart of what most sports magazines and fishermen consider to be the best trout fishing in the Midwest. You can literally walk to a trout stream full of rainbow and brown trout, toss that fly in, give it a jiggle, and get ready for fresh fish for dinner. And that’s just one of many trout streams in the area. Or if bass, crappie, northern pike or walleye fishing is more your style, brace yourself. The Grand Lady is just a short drive away. The Mississippi River, its backwaters and sloughs are teaming with those trophy fish you’ve always heard about. In fact, not 20 minutes from our farm is the site of the National Pro Bass Fishing Tournament, an event held here for years. If you forget the canoe, don’t worry. Goose Island County Park is the largest county park in the state of Wisconsin, just 20 minutes away, located on the Mississippi River, and rents canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and more. Tent camping and RV camping is also available.

The “Big City”
Coon Valley is home to several extraordinary restaurants serving great American and Italian cuisine, that have been featured in regional and national magazines. Then there’s La Crosse, Wisconsin, a few minutes further down the road, where you will find live theater, movies, great dining, historic tours, the best “Rails To Trails” bike trails in the nation, great shopping, and much more. Called “The Jewel Of The Mississippi”,
La Crosse is truly the jewel in the crown that is the Upper Mississippi River Valley.
